So, we have all had this happen to us at least once…you are running uber late for work, run out to the car, or so you think…and it’s not there! You have been parking in the same space for months and hadn’t realized the time has come. It’s day street cleaning season. After calling out of work, finding your vehicle in the city Tow Lot, paying the towing fee and paying a hefty parking ticket, you have spent at least $200. This $200 lesson could have totally been avoided if you had just read the sign!
Beginning April 1st, most city of Boston streets will encounter day street cleaning sometime during the week, between the months of April-November. Be sure to check out the City of Boston’s street cleaning website: https://www.cityofboston.gov/publicworks/sweeping/to find out when your local neighborhood is scheduled for street cleaning. Typically if street cleaning is being done on one side of the street, you are usually able to park on the opposite side of the street without any problems. Street cleaning is necessary in our communities. The cleaning of the streets helps keep our neighborhoods healthy and safe. As members of society it’s our duty to abide by the rules that are set in our community for the betterment of our society. With this being said, let’s do our part and move our cars…before we can’t find our cars, because it’s at the city Tow Lot!
Here are some helpful tips on how to avoid tickets and towing during street cleaning season:
Always look at the signs on the street you’re parking on. Acclimate yourself with times, dates and days posted on signs. Secondly, if you must park where the day street cleaning is going on the next morning, be sure to set your alarm clock and move your vehicle one hour prior to the start of street cleaning. Giving yourself an hour will give you time to park in a safe spot and begin your day. Lastly, if you see something, say something. Inform friends, neighbors and visitors about day street cleaning. Let others know about days, dates and times street cleaning will be held. Don’t let the same inconvenience that happened to you, happen to others.
If you’re not willing to play the weekly game of hide and go seek with tow truck drivers and meter attendants, why not rent a parking space! Renting a monthly parking space saves time and money.
